Course Description

This professional course provides a practical foundation in SQL for data science and analytics using R. Participants will learn how to work with relational databases, retrieve and manipulate data using SQL, and integrate SQL workflows with R and the tidyverse. The course focuses on the essential SQL skills required to efficiently work with structured data in professional data environments.
The curriculum progresses from SQL fundamentals to data aggregation, advanced queries, joins, and database operations, before introducing R integration. Participants will learn how to connect R to databases, execute SQL queries from R, retrieve query results, and work with database data using dplyr and dbplyr. Through hands-on exercises, learners will develop practical skills for combining SQL and R in data-focused workflows.
Prerequisite note: This course requires basic R programming knowledge. No prior SQL experience is required — all SQL concepts will be taught from the ground up.

Course Outline

This course is structured into 5 core modules, each carefully designed to build progressively on the previous one.
